Ubi Bene Ibi Patria, Luiza Parvu’s MFA thesis feature documentary film, produced by Root Films, and made in collaboration with Toma Peiu, has been awarded three prestigious competitive post-production grants from New York University Tisch School of the Arts: The Martin E. Segal Prize; the Alan Landsburg Documentary Production Award, and the Lora Hays Award for Documentary Editing.
Documenting protagonists as diverse as an elderly Romanian Jewish couple in Queens, NY, Romanians of various generations living in Italy, Spain, France and the U.K., and a family of third generation Americans in Wisconsin, Ubi Bene Ibi Patria is an unconventional railroad movie documentary, zapping across space and time, putting immigration stories from different generations and backgrounds in conversation with one another.
The film was shot over the course of the year 2016, in seven European countries and several US states, by Parvu and Peiu, as a two-person documentary team.
